Disaster Response
In 2007, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded AMR with an exclusive contract to provide ground and air ambulance service along with para-transit service to supplement federal and military responses to disasters, acts of terrorism and other public health emergencies. This national contract is the first of its kind and as of October 1, 2009 covers the 48 contiguous United States which are divided into 4 FEMA zones.
Members of the Disaster Response Team (DRT) assist communities in times of need, using their dynamic skills and compassionate spirit to have a positive impact on the lives of others.
As the nation's leading medical transportation company, AMR must be ready to respond to emergency events wherever they might occur across the United States. This means having a team of professionals prepared now and in the future to deploy immediately to wherever local governments and communities need us, or when we are called upon at a national level.

NEMA Releases Intrastate Mutual Aid Legislation Model
The National Emergency Management Association (NEMA) released a new model of intrastate mutual aid legislation. The model 1) has a description of emergency responder that is inclusive of non-governmental entities, 2) provides for out-of-area certification and licensure issues, 3) provides for arbitration regarding reimbursement issues and 4) contains immunity language. NEMA, along with a panel of representatives of national public safety organizations, prepared the 13-page model document with funding from the Department of Homeland Security. The NEMA model document, according to the periodical CQ Homeland Security "is meant to be reviewed and adopted voluntarily by communities across the country. "Many cities and towns have drawn up mutual aid agreements on their own, but NEMA prepared the model document to help address issues that might not have been covered in such pacts." The AAA recommends to its members that they review the document and determine if it well suited for use in your community. A copy of the model can be downloaded as an Adobe Acrobat file.
